We are open to collaboration with research institutions, universities and other innovative companies in terms of publicly funded R&D projects.
We are constantly looking for partnerships that align with our mission to foster the use of lead-free functional materials and solutions.
Our projects:
Lead-free implantable PMUT based energy harvesting for medical applications
The aim of the project is to develop the first commercially available lead-free PMUT based broadband energy harvester for charging implanted medical devices using ultrasound.
Currently, the lifetime of implantable medical devices, which are placed inside the body, is limited by the operating time of their battery. Therefore, neurostimulators, pacemakers and defibrillators need battery replacements every 5 to 10 years using surgery, which is costly and introduces additional risks of infection.
Our solution would allow to charge implanted batteries by harvesting ultrasonic energy from an external ultrasound sources, that are commonly used in hospitals for ultrasonic diagnostic or treatment applications, considerably extending operational times of intra-body devices.

Sputtering targets for the production of lead-free ceramic thin films
The aim of the project is to improve the technology for the production of NBT-BT solid solution sputtering targets developed by MB Pjezomaterija using the Vilnius University (VU) licensed two-stage (1-x)[0.8Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.2BaTiO3]-xNaNbO3 ceramics (x=0; 0.04; 0.05; 0.06 and 0.08) synthesis method.
Currently, the most widely used piezoelectric materials in commercial applications are Pb(Zr1−xTix)O3 (PZT)-based ceramics, which have excellent electromechanical properties. Unfortunately, PZT ceramics contain lead, which is toxic and poses many health and environmental problems during product development, production, use, disposal and recycling.
The most widely studied and considered as the main candidates to replace PZT are lead-free perovskite ferroelectrics (FE), such as Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT), BaTiO3 (BT), (K1/2Bi1/2)TiO3 (KBT), (K,Na)NbO3 (KNN) and their various solid solutions. Among them, NBT is considered one of the most promising piezoelectric systems due to its large electric field-induced deformations, good stiffness and fatigue resistance properties.
Successful implementation of the project will allow us to be the first to market high-quality industrial-grade NBT-BT family ceramic targets, which can be widely used in thin-film production using conventional magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition (PLD) systems. This should encourage a much wider use of lead-free ceramics in various fields by replacing PZT and other lead-containing materials.
